DIY Headbands

I am always on the look out for craft projects that are fun to make, while also being useful and pretty. I've had my eye on these Paper Reverie Flower Embellishments and this lovely Rosette Ribbon for awhile now and I think I finally found the perfect use for them ~ headbands! I love the look of an embellished headband, it can be an accessory all on its own and when you make it yourself you can match it to any outfit or occasion ~ you can make it cute and girly, more dramatic for a special occasion, sparkly for night time, the possibilites are endless!

All you need is a glue gun, your favorite embellishments, felt and some inexpensive headbands.

Start by laying out your design on the sheet of felt and then glue your embellishments on the sheet right where you want them. This is the fun part ~ think of the felt as your blank canvas to create your unique headband design (you can use premade embellishments or you can go more creative with rhinestones, pearls, jewels, ribbon, or felt flowers).

Once the glue is set, cut the felt out around your embellished creation. This part doesn't need to be perfect since you won't really see it.

Next, trace around your embellished felt shape onto your sheet of felt. Then cut that shape out as seen here:

Now, to assemble your headband, place hot glue on the un-embellished felt piece and glue to the underside of the headband.

Take your embellished piece and place it right on top of the other piece, being sure to press it together tightly around the headband so that it is nice and secure. Give it a minute or two for the glue to set.

And there you have it, a headband that you created on your own in just a few minutes! So simple and easy, and super cute for springtime!

And here is one that I created with the other flower embellishment that came in the same pack. It's a little more dramatic and a fun way to dress up an outfit:

And this one was super easy, I just rolled out a couple of rosettes from the Rosette Ribbon roll, glued it to the felt like I did above, and it turned out really cute:

This is great rainy-day weekend project. It would also be a really fun activity for a girl's birthday party: supply a bunch of embellishments and have the kids lay out the design of their headbands on felt (and then have the adults glue them on with the hot glue). Not only does it make a fun little party favor, but it encourages creativity. Now that I think about it...I think my friends would love to get together and make their own headbands, I guess this project is great for both kids and adults! Enjoy! --Lauren
