A letter from Paper Zone

Dear Valued Paper Zone Customers:

As you may have heard, we will be closing all of our Paper Zone locations. After receiving an overwhelming outpour of concern, we felt compelled to further explain our unfortunate situation. Paper Zone is a company with 20 year roots in the Northwest. We are based in Seattle, operating eight retail locations throughout Oregon and Washington. However, due to the current economic downturn, we have experienced three years of sales declines between 6-8 percent annually. As a small local retailer we were unable to sustain these losses.

We have appreciated being a part of so many significant life moments. We have had the privilege of helping brides create their wedding invitations, parents announce the birth of their children, restaurants displaying their menus, artists presenting their work and so much more. On behalf of our 67 employees, we want to thank you for your years of loyalty and support during our final days. Please continue to shop local and support other small businesses!

Sincerely,

The Paper Zone Management Team

  1. I'm so sorry to hear this. You are my go-to store for paper goods. I still have a LivingSocial coupon to use. Will it still be honored if I come in tomorrow?

  3. So sad to hear of the closings. I have loved visiting you as I prepare items for my upcoming wedding. :( I too have a living social left to use but believe I need to gift it to someone - will it still be honored? Also, when is the official closing date of the stores?

  4. Very sad that Paper Zone is falling victim to the state of the economy, and very sad for all the people losing their jobs. A wonderful store...the loyal customers will miss it. I was able to use my Living Social coupon here in Portland (Beaverton) last week the day I got the email announcing the store's closing. The staff graciously accepted it, and with everything already marked 30% off, it ended up being a substantial savings. Very gracious, very classy.
    You'll be missed.

I was told the Portland store would be closing the end of January.

  6. I got most of our wedding paper goods at Paper Zone this year, and the staff was incredibly helpful and gracious! They even special-ordered me more paper when the pattern I was using was discontinued by the manufacturer. I am very sad to hear you're closing. Best wishes to all the staff and good luck in the future.

  9. I used to travel from SFO to one of your Washington stores once a year to buy my paper goods for my small business. It was one of those trips I always looked forward to. You definitely were pioneers of the paper passion movement. Thank you and sorry to see you go.

  11. There isn't another store like Paperzone! I have a paper addiction and to be able to purchase just a few pieces of many types of paper was so much fun for me. I am heartbroken that we are losing such a great local business. Best of luck to you all and if you decide to reopen at some point, I'll be first in line!

  12. When my daughter informed me of your closing, I was shocked! I had just been in your Bellingham store on my visit to Washington in early December. She was even excited about going back for her art projects. I always made sure I visited your Bellingham, Tukwila and Salem stores when I was out that way. Good wishes to all of you and keep the faith! You'll be missed!

  13. I have been a long-time customer of Paper Zone and am saddened to hear that you are closing all of your stores. I always get my specialty paper for card-making and other paper-crafting needs I have. My deepest regrets

  14. I'm so sad to learn that you are closing! We don't live in the PNW anymore. However, I remember when I first moved to Dallas, I made lots of online purchases with you! I agree, there is no other store like the PaperZone where you can buy so many types of paper in small quantaties. It's HEAVEN for paper-crafters. Will you decide to be an exclusive online retailer??? You will be missed.

  16. Very sad for Paper Zone. Too bad not one store could stay open. I'm unhappy to hear how the employee's were informed. Not a very nice Christmas present. I hope someone is able to come to the consumers rescue. Even with just one store in the perfect location, people will come. SUPPORT OUR SMALL BUSINESSES!!!

  18. I am so sad that you are having to close. It was such a joy to come into your store in Shoreline. The staff was always so helpful and cheerful. My daughter loved drawing at your kid's table. I created my wedding invitation, daughter's birth announcement and many Christmas and Thank you cards over the years.

Thank you for being there. Good luck to all of you.

  19. I was so sorry to read a "store closing sale" ad today in the Oregonian. The Paper Zone has been a favorite place to go for many years. I was so bummed many years ago when the Vancouver, WA store closed. I still drive to the Portland store for my paper choices. Good luck to you and your employees in their future endeavors. I hope to hear of maybe a spin off business online or elsewhere in the future. I would definitely support.

  21. I am so disappointed. Every time I visited my family in Seattle, I tried to get to Paper Zone! It was an amazing place.
Thank you for years of fun browsing and purchasing.

  22. you helped me with my wedding, announce my first grandchild (a girl) and always had a helpful attitude when i came in.. I was heartbroken to drive up to the store in South Seattle and find numbers painted on the parking stalls and an "out of business" sign in the window. I will never find any store as amazing as PaperZone. Thank you for EVERTYTHING! good luck to you all!
